The Head of HR Operations will lead the HR Operations function and build efficient, scalable, and high-quality HR operational processes. The role oversees HR systems, governance, payroll, benefits, employee data management, and HR service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- HR Operations Strategy and Leadership – develop and implement a comprehensive HR Operations roadmap aligned to MDU goals and HR plans to build engagement, enhance performance, and shape our culture.
- Identify and resolve process gaps; drive continuous improvement and standardisation of clear and robust HR processes.
- Support the Admin Manager with end-to-end HR lifecycle processes, including onboarding, contractual changes, pay adjustment, absence management and offboarding.
- Support the HR BPs with development and delivery of Talent Development and Succession plans.
- Mentor and support junior members of the HR team.
- HR Systems & Technology (HRIS) – oversee HRIS and technology, accountable for system enhancements and automation of HR processes.
- Drive digital transformation initiatives within HR, including self‑service tools, workflow automation, and analytics; ensure alignment and buy‑in from stakeholders (e.g. Exec, SLT, Change).
- Partner with IT to ensure data integrity, security, and system compliance.
- Payroll, compensation & benefits – support the Payroll Manager to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing across all business units/regions, oversee employee benefit programmes, implement new initiatives, own pension/benefits enrolment cycles and audits.
- Manage 3rd‑party relationships with brokers/vendors to ensure cost‑effective services.
- Partner with Finance to support budgeting, cost forecasting, and reporting.
- Employee Data & Compliance – manage employee records, data governance and document retention policies; provide reporting data as required to inform business and financial decisions and internal policies.
- Develop HR dashboards and analytics that provide actionable insights on workforce operations.
- Own contractor management and governance, ensuring compliance with IR35 rules.
- Partner with HR Business Partners and leadership to influence decision‑making through data trends.
- Support audit requests and be the HR owner for compliance reviews (e.g. Gender Pay Gap reporting).
- Cross‑functional Partnership – collaborate with Legal, IT, Finance and business leaders to support MDU priorities and serve as an escalation point for operational issues and complex employee matters.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent (CIPD level 7)
Experience
- Significant experience in senior/leadership HR Operation roles.
- Strong knowledge of UK employment legislation and HR best practice.
- Proven experience implementing and managing HRIS systems.
- Significant experience managing payroll interfaces and employee benefits.
- Proven project management to deliver added value HR projects.
