Purpose of the job
To commission, write and edit engaging content for all MDU and DDU channels, including the website, digital publications, social media platforms, apps, eLearning tools and email communications; ensuring it is consistent with house style and maintains the professional voice of the MDU and DDU. To add, remove and edit content using the MDU's content management system or other digital platforms. To regularly review and communicate the MDU editorial and policy guide for staff who write on behalf of the organisation.
Responsibilities
- Work with colleagues to define and manage the MDU and DDU’s content strategy, ensuring that content is shared and distributed as widely as possible amongst target audiences.
- Produce, maintain and promote the policy and editorial guide to internal customers who write material for external and internal use.
- Ensure content governance on existing, in progress and planned content.
- Manage the editorial and production process of the digital journals effectively.
- Support, coach and guide all internal customers who write for external audiences, so that they write in the MDU style and follow MDU policy guidelines.
- Develop and update protocols and processes for content provided via digital and traditional channels.
- Produce, commission, and edit digital content such as pages, guides, podcasts, eLearning, videos, features and journal articles for the websites, social media platforms, podcasts, emails and apps.
- Read documents for policy as required.
- Regularly review online content to ensure it is relevant, accurate and up to date.
- Work across the marketing and communications teams to optimise content for all activity, implementing effective SEO and PPC strategies.
- Identify and prepare images and other multimedia content for use online.
- Provide copywriting support as needed for websites and emails.
- Provide advice on content design and review content for colleagues.
- Use analytics to measure the effectiveness of content and identify areas for improvement, which may include creating, updating or archiving content.
- Undertake other tasks as required by the leadership team.
- Update and maintain the MDU policy guide in line with brand guidelines.
- Management and production of journal publications.
- Production of online content including guides and feature articles.
- Preparation of copy for inclusion in MDU and DDU marketing campaigns.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications
- The ability to prepare high quality written material, consistent in style and in line with MDU policy and tone.
- The ability to take complex information and distil it into concise, readable and easily understandable web-ready copy.
- The ability to edit pre-prepared articles in order to make these read more easily both online and offline.
- The ability to research ideas using a range of techniques in order to produce articles.
- Familiarity with software tools for project management, CMS, design or editing.
- Proven experience of taking a publication from concept to print including management of the interim steps.
- The ability to write original content based on a concept or brief.
- While not essential, an understanding or experience of writing about medical or health issues is desirable.
