The Data Architect will provide senior data architecture leadership for the Synthesis Programme Data Workstream. The role will act as MDU’s client-side data architecture lead across data migration, Microsoft Fabric, reporting foundations, governance and transition into run-state support, ensuring that architecture decisions are practical, deliverable and aligned to programme milestones. The post-holder will provide technical leadership, design assurance and delivery support across the Data Workstream, coordinating key dependencies, risks, decisions and architecture deliverables through the lifecycle of the programme.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Data Workstream from a data architecture perspective and act as the senior data architecture authority within the Synthesis Programme.
  • Own and assure the target data architecture needed to support migration from legacy platforms and data structures into the target landscape, including downstream reporting and integration requirements.
  • Define and apply design standards and technical patterns covering Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Azure Integration Services, APIs and enterprise data pipelines where required to support programme delivery.
  • Provide design assurance through programme forums, workstream meetings and architecture review processes.
  • Support transition from programme delivery into run-state support through documentation, knowledge transfer and operational readiness activity.
  • Target data architecture, design standards and core patterns defined and applied across the Data Workstream.
  • Microsoft Fabric implementation supported through appropriate architectural oversight and design assurance.
  • Source-to-target mapping catalogue completed and controlled.
  • Migration test cycles executed with reconciliation, validation and issue resolution.
  • Priority downstream reporting and semantic models delivered and validated against legacy outputs.
  • Initial governance, metadata and lineage foundations established, including Purview where in scope.
  • Production cutover and run-state readiness supported through documentation and knowledge transfer.

Required Experience:

  • Proven experience as a Data Architect, Lead Data Architect or equivalent in large-scale transformation environment.
  • Strong experience delivering enterprise data transformation, migration and platform modernisation activity.
  • Strong experience in Microsoft Fabric architecture and data platform design.
  • Strong understanding of modern analytical platform design, including lakehouse, warehouse and semantic modelling concepts.
  • Strong data modelling capability across conceptual, logical and physical domains.
  • Demonstrable experience leading complex data migration, mapping, reconciliation and validation activity.
  • Strong Azure data and integration architecture experience, including APIs and enterprise integration patterns.
  • Practical experience working across Power BI, Dynamics 365, Power Platform, SQL, Python and source-control / CI-CD approaches.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, governance and communication skills, with the ability to influence technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience providing architecture leadership in multi-disciplinary delivery settings.
  • Experience with Microsoft Purview or similar metadata, lineage and governance tooling.
  • Experience within regulated or operationally complex environments.
  • Experience of working on large-scale business or platform migrations.
  • Agile / Scrum delivery experience.
  • Experience with AI Foundry, LLM or wider enterprise AI platforms.
