The Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) is the organisation through which the Mayor of London exercises his role as the Police and Crime Commissioner for London and is led by the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime. MOPAC undertakes a broad range of statutory duties and works closely with the Mayor of London, Deputy Mayor and Metropolitan Police Service to deliver the priorities that will create safer London communities. We are seeking an experienced Head of Internal Audit, Risk and Assurance Services to play a pivotal leadership role in delivering Internal Audit services across the GLA group. This includes the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS), MOPAC, Greater London Authority (GLA), London Fire Brigade (LFB), London Legacy Development Corporation, Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation and Oxford Street Development Corporation.
Responsibilities
- Act as Head of Audit for designated clients, providing strategic assurance and an annual audit opinion.
- Lead and deliver a high‑quality, risk‑based internal audit service aligned to the Global Internal Audit Standards and UK public‑sector requirements.
- Advise and influence senior leaders, Audit Committee Chairs and Boards on governance, risk, internal control and assurance matters.
- Develop and implement audit strategies, annual plans and risk assessments that support organisational objectives.
- Oversee the effective use of co‑sourced specialist providers and audit technologies, including data analytics.
- Build strong relationships with External Audit and other assurance providers to ensure a joined‑up assurance framework.
- Drive continuous improvement in professional standards, ethics and governance across the client base.
- Lead, motivate and develop senior audit professionals, ensuring high performance, capability and inclusive leadership.
Qualifications and Experience
- Must hold a full professional qualification (CCAB or CMIIA) and evidence ongoing professional development.
- Proven ability to design, lead and deliver high‑quality, risk‑based audit services across a wide range of complex operational, corporate, ICT and change environments.
- Confidence in advising senior leaders on governance, internal control, fraud risk and assurance, and in exercising professional independence, sound judgement and discretion in politically sensitive environments.

Working Arrangement
We operate a hybrid working model with office hubs at Union Street (near London Bridge) and Newlands Park (postcode SE26). On average, staff will work 1‑2 days a week from an office hub, which may differ depending on the role requirements.
