We offer expert veterinary care, rescue and rehoming, programmes in the community and guidance and support to improve the lives of dogs and cats in need.We operate, in the main, from our historic building in north London but also have operations in Georgia and Afghanistan. Our Cattery Carers are an integral part of our work to ensure cats in need receive the care, support and love they deserve.Job purpose/summaryAt Mayhew, cats in need come through the doors of our Home, a rescue and rehoming shelter in North West London every day. We have up to 80 cats in our care at any one time and many more temporarily living in foster homes. We are very proud of the vital work we do to make sure they have the care, support and love they deserve, and our Cattery Carers are at the heart of this.Our Cattery Carers are an important part of our team, making sure each cat in our care has their specific needs met, including feeding, cleaning, assessing, rehoming, providing enrichment and grooming.We offer a caring and supportive team, lots of variety and the opportunity to make a lasting difference to the lives of cats who rely on us.

Main areas of responsibility
- Care and support of cats
- Helping to meet the specific needs of cats in our care by feeding, cleaning, enrichment, grooming and
- Making sure the cattery and associated areas and equipment are clean and maintained
- Helping with carrying out behaviour assessments
- Helping updating and maintaining accurate records, including health, behavioural and enrichment care plans
- Taking photos and videos of cats for rehoming and fundraising
- Training and supervising cattery volunteers
- Make sure goods and supplies are properly stored, maintained and ensure minimum wastage
Rehoming, intakes and fostering
- Helping other team members with rehoming, including supporting interviews with potential adopters
- Helping the team with seeing new cats into our care and carrying out associated administration
- Helping the team to reunite stray cats with their owners when needed
- Helping the team to place cats into foster homes and liaising with foster carers

General
- Mayhew is committed to encouraging volunteering throughout the organisation and as such the post holder will be expected to support and respect volunteers, and may be asked to work alongside or supervise a volunteer as part of their role

PERSON SPECIFICATION – Cattery Carer
Knowledge, educational & professional qualifications
- Level 2 NVQ in Animal Care or equivalent
- Knowledge of cat behaviour
Experience
- Experience of cat handling and working or volunteering with cats
- Experience of working in an animal welfare organisation or shelter
- Experience of dealing with distressing situations and/or distressed animals
Skills /Abilities
- Able and willing to work co-operatively in a team
- Able to work alone with minimal supervision
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Confidence of handling dogs
- Good time management and ability to juggle
- multiple tasks or priorities
- Able to work well in a sometime pressured
- and emotive environment
- Polite, calm and caring manner
- Flexibility to meet changing needs as they arise
- Basic skills in all MS Office packages
