Job title : Cat Intake & Foster Coordinator and Cattery Carer

Context
Mayhew provides a range of animal welfare and veterinary services, in the UK and abroad. We offer expert veterinary care, rescue and rehoming, programmes in the community and guidance and support to improve the lives of dogs and cats in need.
We operate, in the main, from our historic building in north London but also have operations in Georgia and Afghanistan. Our Cattery Carers are an integral part of our work to ensure dogs in need receive the care, support and love they deserve.
Job purpose/summary
At Mayhew, cats in need come through the doors of our Home, a rescue and rehoming shelter in North West London every day. We have up to 80 cats in our care at any one time and many more temporarily living in foster homes. We are very proud of the vital work we do to make sure they have the care, support and love they deserve, and our Animal Care staff are at the heart of this.

Main areas of responsibility
- Matching suitable cats with cat foster carers, and arranging collection and drop off appointments at
- Providing and organising essentials cat care products, including organising a regular supply of food and litter.
- Providing behavioural advice to foster carers when needed
- Arranging vet checks and appointments at Mayhew for cats on foster.
- Liaising with the veterinary team to ensure all cats on foster receive prompt veterinary care when needed.
- Creating cat website profiles for cats on foster to best reflect their individual personalities and needs and ensuring placed into new homes as soon as possible
- Ensuring assessments and feedback forms from foster carers are promptly provided, and the cats are advertised for adoption as soon as possible.
Cat Intake Co-ordination
- Ensure owners and finders wishing to relinquish their cats, or wishing to bring in stray cats they have found, are responded to in a timely manner
- Working closely with the Head of Cattery to arrange intakes depending on space availability and ensuring we help cats who we are best placed to look after.
- Ensuring all associated paperwork is completed, maintaining accurate and detailed records.
- Helping with carrying out behaviour assessments
- Maintaining accurate records and providing monthly reports.
Cat Adoptions
- Assisting the Cat Adoption Officer with rehoming, including supporting interviews with potential adopters.
- Assisting the Cat Adoption Officer with ensuring cats are advertised for adoption as soon as possible.
- Supporting the Working Cat Programme, ensuring cats needing non-traditional homes are admitted only when we have suitable outlet homes lined up.
Cattery
- Helping to meet the specific needs of cats in our care by helping with their feeding, assessments, cleaning, enrichment and grooming
- Helping with making sure the cattery and associated areas and equipment are clean and maintained
- Helping the team to reunite stray cats with their owners when needed
- Helping the team to monitor and record individual health, behavioural and enrichment care plans for the cats on site.

PERSON SPECIFICATION – Cat Intake & Foste r Coordinator and Catte ry Carer
Knowledge,educational &professionalqualifications
- Level 2 NVQ in Animal Care or equivalent
- Knowledge of cat behaviour
Experience
- Experience of cat handling, either in aboarding facility or shelter environment
- Experience of working in an animal welfare organisation or shelter
- Experience of dealing with distressingsituations and/or distressed animals
- Previous experience working with
Skills /Abilities
- Able and willing to work co-operatively in ateam
- Able to work alone with minimal supervision
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Good time management and ability to juggle multiple tasks or priorities
- Able to work well in a sometime pressured and emotive environment
- Polite, calm and caring manner
- Flexibility to meet changing needs as they arise
- Basic skills in all MS Office packages (especially Outlook, Word, Excel,PowerPoint)
- Willingness to learn
