This will enable us to continue promoting the advancement of education in the local and national history and heritage associated with the ship, and celebrating the explorer John Cabot and the exploration and settlement of the New World.
The Treasurer will oversee budgets, routine financial management and financial planning. The role will also involve explaining financial affairs to non‑financial members of the Board of Trustees.

As treasurer, you'll have an essential role in contributing to the continued operation of The Matthew of Bristol. This year, we are focusing on building back our cash reserves, which have been depleting since the COVID‑19 pandemic. These reserves, once used to buffer against maintenance and revenue cycles, have now reached critically low levels.
We also have a significant milestone on the horizon – 2027 marks the 30th anniversary of The modern Matthew setting sail for North America, tracing the route of John Cabot’s 1497 voyage of exploration, and we’re planning projects to strengthen our impact on heritage, education and community engagement.
We are therefore seeking a trustee treasurer who can contribute to the strategic development of the charity and who shares our passion for maritime heritage and public education.
