The Finance Manager will lead a small finance team in the day-to-day to deliver month-end close, management accounts, Payroll, and VAT. The role will provide accurate, timely financial insight to support operational and strategic decision-making, while ensuring strong financial control and governance appropriate to an SME environment. The role is office based in Winnal Winchester.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and deliver the monthly management accounts (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) to agreed deadlines
- Manage the month-end close process, including journals, accruals, prepayments, stock, and reconciliations
- Ensure balance sheet integrity, with regular review and reconciliation of all key accounts
- Process and oversee the monthly Payroll process and Quarterly VAT returns
Management Accounts & Analysis
- Provide detailed variance analysis against budget, forecast, and prior periods
- Analyse margins, product profitability, overheads, and cost drivers
- Support pricing decisions and commercial analysis
Controls, Compliance & Governance
- Maintain robust financial controls and processes appropriate for an SME
- Oversee VAT returns, statutory reporting, and liaison with external accountants and auditors
- Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and tax requirements
Team & Stakeholder Management
- Manage and develop the finance team
- Act as a key support for the Finance Director
- Support board packs, investor reporting, and ad-hoc financial analysis
Skills & Experience
- Qualified or part-qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA or equivalent)
- Strong experience in SME finance
- Proven ownership of month-end and management accounts
- Excellent financial analysis and Excel skills
- Commercial mindset with the ability to explain numbers clearly
- Hands-on, detail-oriented, and comfortable operating in a lean environment
- Experience in manufacturing, distribution, or product-based businesses
- Experience with stock, margin analysis, or multi-entity structures
- ERP / accounting system implementation or improvement experience
