Overview – The school was founded in 2014 as a free school, joined the United Learning Trust in February 2026. In September 2026 it will become Marylebone Academy and in September 2027 will admit girls into year 7, making the advertised role fundamental to the planning and integration of female students as part of our growth strategy. Marylebone Academy is an inner‐city boys' (soon to be co‐educational) school with a cohort of 50% Pupil Premium students. It is academically rigorous with an emphasis on excellent behaviour, disruption‐free learning and outstanding teaching. With two sites on North Wharf Road – secondary and sixth form – it is a modern, vibrant inner‐city secondary school.

Vice Principal Role Overview – The Vice Principal will work with the Senior Leadership Team – Principal, four Assistant Principals and the School Business Manager – to create an exciting learning environment with an emphasis on academic excellence and exemplary standards of behaviour. The Vice Principal will share and support the Principal's vision for change and school improvement, balancing strategic thinking with operational oversight to deliver exceptional outcomes for students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Curriculum
    • Strategic planning of the curriculum implementation.
    • Timetable: input into the school curriculum plan, staffing, rooming and timetabling.
    • Staffing: coordination of the staffing plan and involvement in recruitment.
    • Cross‐curricular: coordination of collaborative activities and projects.
    • Enrichment: oversight of co‐curricular life and focus on 'education with character' and personal development.
  • Pupil Progress and Assessment
    • Oversee coordination of regular and timely progress checks, analysing results and implementing impactful interventions.
    • Assist with the coordination of internal exams, baseline testing, reports and progress monitoring.
    • Oversee intervention strategies and overall responsibility for individualized learning.
  • School Self‐Evaluation
    • Contribute to overall self‐evaluation and lead on student voice.
  • Pupil Welfare and Behaviour for Learning
    • Work with Heads of Year to establish effective behaviour for learning.
    • Co‐operate with outside agencies to provide suitable provision for students requiring additional welfare support.
    • Manage behaviour, rewards and sanctions; oversee exclusions.
    • Support a trauma‐informed approach to inclusion and behaviour.
  • Policies Implementation
    • Implement and review relevant policies with support of the Principal and Local Governing Board.
  • Line Management
    • Line manage faculty or subject areas.
    • Line manage some Assistant Principals as determined by the Principal.
  • School Events and Operations
    • Ensure smooth functioning of the school day by day.
    • Lead relevant parent meetings.
    • Attend Local Governing Board meetings as required.
  • Other Duties
    • Undertake any professional duties delegated by the Principal.
    • Provide support for staff and students.
    • Maintain smooth running and adherence to procedures guiding the school ethos and values.
    • Be an active member of the Senior Leadership Team.
    • Undertake teaching responsibilities as appropriate.
