Mr Jones Watches is looking for an experienced marketing person to act as a sounding board and mentor to our small, hands-on brand & marketing team of six people, while our Head of Brand & Marketing is on maternity leave (November 2026 - August 2027).

We're looking for someone who knows their stuff, enjoys working with a small creative business, and can be there for the team to bounce ideas around with, ask questions, and get a bit of experienced perspective when they need it.

What you'll be doing

You'll have a regular call with our Brand & Marketing Manager and the wider marketing team for around 1–2 hours a week, to talk through what's happening, what's coming up and anything they're struggling with internally.

This could include:

  • Helping shape marketing plans and priorities for the weeks and months ahead
  • Being a sounding board for ideas, launches and creative concepts
  • Helping the team think strategically about how we're growing the brand and reaching customers
  • Offering practical advice on things like Shopify, Meta ads, social media, email marketing and press.
  • Sharing your experience and helping the new manager build confidence in making decisions
  • Helping sense-check plans, briefs and ideas before they go live
  • Bringing an outside perspective to the team and asking the questions we might not be asking ourselves

We're a small team, so there will inevitably be a mixture of strategic questions and very practical ones. One week it might be and the next it might be why on earth is Shopify doing this?

About you

We're looking for someone with several years of hands-on marketing experience, ideally in a small or medium sized consumer, e-commerce, lifestyle, design or creative business.

You'll probably be someone who:

  • Has experience developing and delivering marketing strategy, not just executing someone else's plan
  • Is comfortable getting stuck into the detail when needed
  • Has practical experience with platforms such as Shopify, Meta Ads and email/CRM
  • Can look at a business holistically and understand how brand, content, social, CRM and performance marketing fit together
  • Has experience working with limited resources and small teams
  • Is commercially minded but understands the importance of building a distinctive brand
  • Enjoys mentoring and supporting less experienced marketers
  • Is good at explaining things without making people feel silly for asking
  • Can give honest, constructive advice while still leaving the team to make their own decisions

You don't need to be a specialist in every area, we're much more interested in someone with strong all-round marketing experience, good judgement and a practical, helpful approach.

The practical bits

  • Freelance
  • Approximately 1–2 hours per week
  • Regular weekly call with the Brand & Marketing Manager and/or wider team
  • Some flexibility to answer the occasional question or provide quick feedback between calls
  • Rate: £ negotiable based on experience
  • Remote / flexible

The company
