The predicted salary is between 10837 - 12753 £ per year.

Duration: Initially the role is offered on a fixed term contract to end on 31st March 2027. Upon confirmation of ongoing funding the role can be extended or made permanent.

We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, and committed GP to join our friendly and supportive team at Market Surgery. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality, evidence-based care to a diverse patient population. Working as part of our friendly multi-disciplinary team you will work collaboratively within the direct and wider Practice team in order to support the provision of excellent patient care.

Located in the heart of the market town of Wath-Upon-Dearne, Market Surgery provides care to 12,200 patients from a single site location with excellent transport links. The Surgery is well served by major road routes, as well as bus links, and would be appealing to anyone looking to work locally, or commute from nearby Rotherham, Barnsley, Doncaster, or Sheffield.

Main duties of the job

A salaried General Practitioner (GP) in primary care provides a broad range of medical services, including consultations, diagnostics, treatment, and preventative care, within a general practice setting. Responsibilities include:

  • Managing, conducting both face-to-face and telephone consultations to assess and diagnose patients' health concerns.
  • Providing appropriate treatment, prescribing medications, and developing care plans for various health conditions.
  • Ensuring preventative care provisions in the screening of patients for disease risk factors, providing health education, and promoting healthy lifestyles.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date patient records.
  • Referring patients to specialists or other healthcare services when necessary.
  • Staying up-to-date with medical knowledge and best practices.

Job responsibilities
  • To adhere to the GMC Code of Professional Conduct.
  • To maintain own clinical competencies and be responsible for own continuing professional development and participate in annual appraisal.
  • To assess, plan, monitor and evaluate patient care using evidence-based practice and in accordance with practice protocols and guidelines.
  • To establish and monitor good working relationships with the GPs, and other health care professionals, statutory and voluntary organisations.
  • In accordance with the Practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork, reports and correspondence in a timely fashion.
  • Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.
  • Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
  • Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
  • In consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health.
  • Providing counselling and health education.
  • Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate.
  • Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
  • Collecting data for audit purposes and complying with QOF requirements.
  • Delivering enhanced services.
  • Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible).
  • Prescribing in accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate.
  • In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
  • Aware of and compliance with all relevant Practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety.
  • A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice.
  • Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation.
  • Contributing to the development of computer-based patient records.
  • Contributing to the summarising of patient records and Read-Coding patient data.
  • Attending training and events organised by the Practice or other agencies, where appropriate.
  • Participate in and encourage the adoption of principles of Modern General Practice such as Online Consultation, total triage etc.
  • Undertake Practice paperwork such as medical reports and assessments.
  • Undertake Home Visits where clinically indicated.
  • Assume areas of clinical responsibility in agreement with the Practice.

Qualifications
  • Qualified GP.
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
  • National Performers List registration.
  • Further qualifications or special interests relevant to primary care.

  • Aware of accountability in own role and limitations in provision of services.
  • Infection control, safeguarding and health promotion.
  • Awareness of local and national health policy.
