Market Surgery is delighted to be advertising for a Healthcare Assistant to join our friendly, diverse and highly skilled nursing team. This is an additional role as we grow and develop our current team. We are looking to recruit a suitably qualified Healthcare Assistant for either 30 hours per week. Working days are 4 days per week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday). This vacancy may close early once a sufficient amount of applications have been received. Main duties of the job
Healthcare Assistants (HCAs) in primary care play a crucial role in providing comprehensive and patient-centred care. Their work contributes to the smooth functioning of the practice and patient health and well-being. HCAs in primary care have a wide range of duties, primarily focused on supporting patients and assisting the clinical team. They work under the supervision of registered nurses or other healthcare professionals, ensuring patients receive the care and support they need, ensuring comfort and safety. They will also play a vital role in health promotion, patient education, and administrative tasks.
Their responsibilities include:
- Supporting the Nursing and GP team with monitoring long term conditions which may require visiting patients' homes, including residential homes.
- General duties such as venepuncture, warfarin monitoring (INR), blood pressure monitoring, sample processing, ECGs, and Health Checks.
- Additional duties where trained may include Basic wound care, Immunisations, Ear Care, and Spirometry.

Job responsibilities
The following are the core responsibilities of the healthcare assistant. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
- Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes.
- Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately.
- Facilitate routine and Home BP monitoring, including 24 hour, advising patients accordingly.
- Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required.
- Support the practice nurse with the management of long term condition clinics (including patient own home and care home).
- Carry out BMI checks as directed.
- Undertake venepuncture.
- Administer injections and vaccinations to patients under PSD.
- When trained, carry out ear irrigation under the supervision of the practice nurse.
- Carry out ECGs as requested.
- Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation.
- Provide support during minor operations as required.
- Ensure clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session.
- Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely and fridge temperature is checked and documented in accordance with practice policy and guidance.
- Ensure clinical waste and sharps are correctly disposed of in accordance with the practice IPC policy.
- Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate.
