An exciting opportunity has become available to join our healthcare team as a Medical Receptionist. This vital role serves as the first point of contact for our patients, helping to create a welcoming, organised, and compassionate environment. We are seeking an individual who is dedicated to exceptional patient care, demonstrates strong communication skills, and thrives in a fast-paced setting.

Main duties of the job:

  • Lead by example with particular interest in promoting excellence in customer service, communication with patients, equality and diversity, and patient confidentiality.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrable experience of customer care and/or medical knowledge within a clinical setting.
  • Full training will be provided.
  • The hours for this role are 25.5 hours per week:
  • Tuesday 07:25 - 14:00
  • Thursday 07:25 - 17:50
  • Friday 08:00 - 18:30

About us:

The Market Surgery is a busy seven doctor practice providing care to over 10,000 patients in and around Aylsham in North Norfolk. Working from purpose-built premises, located a short walking distance from the centre of Aylsham, we aim to provide a friendly and efficient service to patients fulfilling all their primary care needs. All our consulting rooms are on the ground floor, we have a dispensary next to the reception area and we have a car park for the use of our patients. The practice is part of North and Waveney Integrated Care Service. We are a training practice for GP Registrars and medical students.

Job responsibilities:

  • Process and effectively signpost patients to the appropriate healthcare professional, depending on the presenting condition.
  • Answer incoming phone calls, transferring calls or dealing with the callers' requests appropriately.
  • Process patient requests for appointments.
  • Initiate contact with and respond to requests from patients, team members, and external agencies.
  • Photocopy documentation as required.
  • Data entry of temporary registrations and relevant patient information as required.
  • Input data into the patients' healthcare records as necessary.
  • Direct requests for information, e.g., SAR, insurance/solicitors letters and DVLA forms, to the administrative team.
  • Manage all queries as necessary in an efficient manner.
  • Carry out system searches as requested.
  • Maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times.
  • Monitor and maintain the reception area and noticeboards.
  • Support all clinical staff with general tasks as requested.
  • Undertake all mandatory training and induction programmes.
  • Visitors sign in and the member of staff they are seeing are advised of their arrival.
  • Attend a formal appraisal with their manager at least every 12 months. Once a performance/training objective has been set, progress will be reviewed on a regular basis so that new objectives can be agreed.
  • Contribute to public health campaigns (e.g., flu clinics) through advice or direct care.

Person Specification:

  • Educated to GCSE Mathematics & English (C or above) or equivalent.
  • Active signposting or Care Navigator training qualification.
  • Experience of working with the public.
  • Experience of working in a primary care environment.
  • Experience of working in a healthcare setting.
