The Market Surgery is looking for a Health Care Assistant or Phlebotomist to join our well-established and forward-thinking GP practice. The hours will be part time but can be negotiated to fit the right candidate. We are looking for someone who is dedicated and seeking a new challenge.
Main duties of the job:
- The HCA works within the organisation and supports the practice nursing and administrative teams in the delivery of clinical and administrative services.
- This role involves working as part of the practice multi-disciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population.
- Having completed the Care Certificate or equivalent qualification, the HCA will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion, long-term condition management and patient education while also supporting the administrative team on an as-required basis.
About us:
The Market Surgery is a busy seven doctor practice providing care to over 10,000 patients in and around Aylsham in North Norfolk. Working from purpose-built premises, located a short walking distance from the centre of Aylsham, we aim to provide a friendly and efficient service to patients fulfilling all their primary care needs. All our consulting rooms are on the ground floor, we have a dispensary next to the reception area and we have a car park for the use of our patients. The practice is part of North and Waveney Integrated Care Service. We are a training practice for GP Registrars and medical students.
Job responsibilities:
- Consult with patients and their families to undertake assessments of patient need.
- Deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion, long-term condition management and patient education.
- Be an integral part of the general practice team.
- Provide clinical support to registered nurses and other healthcare professionals within the organisation.
- Deliver basic clinical care interventions under supervision, supporting continuity of care and patient safety initiatives.
- Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation.
- Provide support during minor operations as required.
- Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the organisations IPC Policy.
- Work within national and local protocols where these exist.
- Be aware of your duties and responsibilities regarding current legislation and adhere to both PCN and practice policies and procedures on Safeguarding Adults and Safeguarding Children.
- Recognise the boundaries of their practice and know when and to whom patients should be referred.
- Support in the delivery of enhanced services and other service requirements.
- Support the administrative team on an as-required basis.
- Undertake all mandatory training and induction programmes.
- Contribute to and embrace the spectrum of clinical governance.
- Maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times.
Person Specification:
Experience:
- Experience of working in a GP practice.
- Experience with ECGs, INRs, Dressings, Blood Pressures, NHS Health Checks.
Qualifications:
- Has completed the Care Certificate or equivalent qualification.
- Qualified in Phlebotomy.
