Market Surgery is excited to be recruiting a Medical Receptionist to join our busy surgery. An opportunity has arisen to join our team of 11 medical receptionists
Market Surgery is a conveniently based location in the heart of Wath-Upon-Dearne with excellent transport links to the surrounding area including Rotherham, Doncaster, Barnsley and Sheffield
Receptionists play a fundamental role in Primary Care Services. As the first member of staff that a patient will encounter their journey of patient centred care starts with you.
22 hours per week over 4 days (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday)
Shift patterns are a mixture of 07:45 β 13:15 and 13:00 β 18:30
Main duties of the job
The purpose of the role is to:
Offer general assistance to the Practice team andproject a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either inperson or via the telephone.
Receive, assist and direct patients in accessingthe appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficientand effective way. Navigate patients to the appropriate care service.
Undertake a variety of administrative duties toassist in the smooth running of the Practice including the provision ofclerical support to clinical staff and other members of the Practice team
Facilitate effective communication betweenpatients, members of the primary health care team, secondary care and otherassociated healthcare agencies

We also work closely with other GP practices across Rotherham, particularly with the other GP practices of Health Village Dearne Valley PCN of which we are an active member.
Job responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities to be undertakenby members of the Practice Reception team may include any or all of the itemsin the following list however duties may be varied from time to time under thedirection of the Receptionist Team Leader, dependent on current and evolvingPractice workload and staffing levels:
Opening up/locking-up of Practicepremises and maintaining security in accordance with Practice protocols
Manage timely completion of tasksfor the attention of reception teams
Registration and deduction ofpatients from the Practice Register
Maintaining and monitoring thePractice appointments system
Processing telephone online and faceto face requests for appointments, visits and telephone consultations and patientsare directed to the appropriate healthcare professionals
Care navigation to external careproviders
Filing and retrieving paperwork
Processing repeat prescriptions inaccordance with Practice guidelines
Computer data entry/data allocationand collation; processing and recording information in accordance with Practiceprocedures
Initiating contact with andresponding to requests from patients, other team member and associatedhealthcare agencies and providers
Providing clerical assistance,including word/data processing, filing, photocopying and scanning
Keeping the reception area,noticeboards and leaflet dispensers tidy and free from obstructions and clutter
Promote patient uptake of onlineconsultation tools
Promote patient uptake of NHS App
Process receipt/delivery of patientsamples and vaccinations in line with cold chain policies
Person Specification
Qualifications
- GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths
- Customer Service or Business Administration NVQ or equivalent
Experience
- Worked in a patient/customer facing role
- Telephone customer service
- Dealing with patients who may become confrontational
- Experience of complaint handling
- Worked in a medical environment
- Worked as a Medical Receptionist
Knowledge and Skills
- IT literate (including Microsoft packages Word and Excel)
- Articulate and excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- SystmOne user trained
- Understanding of general medical terminology
