Skipper and manage our largest commercial dredger which has just undergone a full refit including new engines. Maintain the vessel as she completes contracted jobs throughout the UK. Complete light and heavy engineering contracts on behalf of third-party clients.
Department: Harbour Management and Marine Services
Reports to: Head of Harbour Management
Length of Contract: Permanent
Location/Branch: Cardiff (with regular travel to contracted sites)
Responsible for: Doonhamer Dredger and Crew
Main Duties:
- Navigate Doonhamer to mandated client harbours and work sites.
- Complete dredging contracts in accordance with instructed dredge plans and the requirements of clients.
- Manage crew and crew rotas, on the vessel for all passages and dredging contracts.
- Ensure Doonhamer is maintained “as new” covering all elements of hull, interior and exterior and ensure all five engines are serviced and maintained and remain within warranties.
- Complete log books, dredging plan updates and liaise with colleagues in a consistent and professional manner to successfully complete all contracts.
- Assist with the onward recruitment of additional crew.
- Work in a manner consistent with this senior role and promote the success of the company.
Customers:
- Ensure clients are kept fully informed of all vessel movements and dredge plans.
- Support communication and promotion with clients and contracted authorities.
People Management:
- Work with and support all dredge crews whether for Doonhamer or other company vessels.
Health and Safety:
- Work with the Health and Safety Manager and/or consultants to ensure all H&S regulations are met.
- Ensure all crew are trained in H&S procedures and following processes as required.
- Ensure all risk assessments and relevant paperwork are undertaken.
- Maintain safe and healthy work environment by establishing, following, and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
- Run a safe, injury/accident free workplace.
Business Development:
- Contribute operations information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews.
Other:
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organisations.
- Knowledge sharing and up-skilling other team members.
- Training as required by the role.
- Other tasks reasonably within the scope of the role.
Qualifications:
- Commercially endorsed RYA (or equivalent).
- Advance Powerboard VHF SRC.
- RYA First Aid or equivalent.
- RYA Sea Survival or equivalent.
- RYA PPR.
