Working as part of a small, friendly and competent clinical team, you will work with plenty of autonomy but in a supportive environment with a qualified nurse management team. You will be hands on and involved in every aspect of our residents' care, ranging from personal care to managing and administering medication.
You will be expected to make sound clinical judgements whilst role modelling best practice and inspiring and mentoring junior staff to achieve their potential. You will have the opportunity to develop your own clinical skills, and work closely with our in-house specialist therapy team to deliver the best outcomes for our residents.
Main duties of the job:- You will need to have a minimum of 12 months experience post-qualification, (with a minimum of 6 months left on your PIN), and if you have an interest or experience in neurological conditions and rehab that would be an advantage.
- To ensure that NICE guidelines, best practice and the NMC code of professional conduct are followed at all times regarding all aspects of the service including care plans and care delivery.
- To lead the care team whilst achieving management objectives and prioritising resident needs.
- To lead, manage and oversee the shift operation and to be accountable for the smooth running of the shift.
- To inspire in staff the ability to operate efficiently, caringly and dynamically so that resident needs are fulfilled and best practice is operated, by leading, role modelling, coaching and mentoring Support Workers and colleagues.
- To allocate tasks and delegate effectively, fairly and appropriately.
- To support audits as required.
- To address errors, issues and poor performance in care staff in a timely and appropriate manner, reporting up to the appropriate manager when appropriate.
- To deliver care directly and carry out resident personal care tasks.
- To liaise closely with the therapy team regarding implementation of personal care plans and routines, in line with rehabilitation goals.
- To dispense medications and mentor care staff through medication dispensing competencies.
- To be responsible for the reviewing and updating of resident care plans in conjunction with the wider MDT.
- To prepare and maintain the records of resident care to NMC standards, and to participate in the implementation and evaluation of standards of care.
- To keep abreast of new developments in the profession, and to bring innovation and creative input to the role for consideration and discussion with line manager.
- To report to the Service Manager or person in charge any accidents/incidents, verbally and in writing and in accordance with Marbrook's procedures.
- To respond to and support residents' family members at an appropriate level, referring up to Service Manager when needed.
- To ensure when asking care staff to deliver tasks that they have the relevant competency, capability and experience to carry out the task safely and correctly.
- To undertake special projects with the guidance of the Service Manager.
- To adhere to the rota, working flexibly to enhance teamwork and resident care.
- To provide information and promote a professional, competent, approachable image to residents, colleagues and visitors, with respect and dignity at all times.
- To ensure effective ordering, stock control, safe storage and administering of medication including controlled drugs, in line with Marbrook's systems and procedures.
- To actively participate in all required meetings including MDT meetings, care and support meetings, staff meetings etc to ensure clinical care is optimised and best practice is operated at all times.
- To deliver routine meetings such as Return to Works, Supervision and other people management meetings as required and with guidance of the Service Manager.
- To keep and maintain a clean, tidy and safe environment for residents, visitors and other staff at all times, and report and act upon any concerns.
- To resolve when possible/appropriate, or report all resident and relative complaints and concerns by liaising with management and/or the relevant designated person in charge.
- To adhere to, apply and ensure infection control procedures are implemented in a manner that is consistent with evidence based practice, maintaining resident, staff and visitors safety.
- To disseminate and share information with appropriate staff promptly, efficiently, accurately as required in order to maintain high standards of care for residents.
- To take an active role in own personal and professional development.
- To be accountable for/carry the responsibility for appropriate level decisions that need to be made regarding residents and care staff, with Service Manager support.
- To keep accurate and clear documentation in line with sector specific and legal requirements.
- To take responsibility for stock management and control, ensuring stocks are managed stably and efficiently at all times.
- To support the recruitment, selection and development of Support Workers as required.
- To attend all mandatory and developmental training courses relevant to the post and as agreed with the line manager.
- To work in accordance with all relevant legislation e.g. CQC standards, Mental Capacity Act, Deprivation of Liberty, Health & Safety at Work etc, and in line with The Marbrook Centre's policies and procedures at all times, contributing (if and when appropriate) to the revision of these documents.
- To act in line with Health and Safety at Work legislation and requirements and in line with The Marbrook Centre's approach to Health and Safety at all times.
- To act in line with the Care Standards Act 2000 and Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults (SoVA) at all times.
- To adhere to all aspects of security and ensure the safety and wellbeing of residents, staff and visitors at all times.
- At all times to ensure high levels of confidentiality when dealing with sensitive material and information, to respect the dignity and confidentiality of our service users, and to adhere to the Data Protection Act 1998.
- To undertake any other duties from time to time, in order to maintain and enhance the service provision and as this role develops.
- Qualifications: Registered General/Mental Health/Learning Disability Nurse (current) - minimum of 12 months post qualification.
- Experience or knowledge of neurological or physical rehabilitation services.
- A demonstrated commitment to caring for people who have neurological conditions.
- Experience of mentoring, assessing and teaching of staff.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
