We have a fantastic opportunity for somebody from either a Military, Defence or Engineering background to join our Secure Infrastructure Team as Protective Security Engineer. This role will suit a practical, logical thinker with a strong understanding of defence and security requirements relating to buildings and infrastructure.

You will play a pivotal part in assisting and supporting the design and delivery of specialist building projects for MTC and external clients. Reporting to the Head of Secure Infrastructure, the role demands a high degree of technical ability and some commercial exposure. As a Protective Security Engineer, the primary focus will be the day-to-day design of security systems on projects across our portfolio of work, ensuring delivery is to a consistently high standard and meeting client and stakeholder expectations. You will act as the key liaison between MTC, clients, design teams, and accreditation authorities, ensuring security requirements are fully integrated into new and existing infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

  • Managing secure infrastructure development schemes for internal and external clients across a broad range of sectors.
  • Being the protective security engineering design Lead, advising professional design teams on security standards and specifications.
  • Building strong relationships with clients, contractors, consultants and internal teams.
  • Coordinating and monitoring the appointment of professional services team in line with MTC policy.
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory, defence, and security standards throughout project delivery.
  • Managing contractors and consultants, including specialist subcontractors, ensuring projects are delivered on time.
  • Driving continuous improvement within the Secure Infrastructure Team.

Who are we looking for?

This role will suit somebody with a military, defence or engineering background who has worked on secure facilities. The successful candidate must be able to work in the UK without restrictions in accordance with UK Law and be prepared to successfully undertake an appropriate level of UK National Security Vetting to DV level according to UK Government National Security Vetting criteria, where Developed Vetting (DV) is the level of vetting required.

We are looking for:

  • Degree-qualified or equivalent, ideally from a relevant professional body (e.g., Security Institute, Register of Security Engineering Specialists, Royal Institute of British Architects, Institute of Mechanical/Electrical Engineers).
  • Experience of working within secure environments.
  • Ability to carry out site inspection on the quality of installation works (site inspections).
  • Organised and have excellent attention to detail.
  • Experience of developing CAD drawings (Revit & AutoCAD) or be willing to learn.
  • Effective communication skills will be required to engage a range of stakeholders both internally and externally. This includes developed interpersonal, negotiation, influencing and conflict management skills, where the subject matter is complex and/or sensitive.
  • Proven team player with ability to motivate others.

Desirable Knowledge & Experience

  • Familiarity with Defence Security Standards (JSPs) and NPSA STaMP process.
  • Experience specifying security systems (CCTV, access control, intruder detection).
  • Experience in developing project bids and proposal writing would be advantageous.
