We are seeking to recruit a Lecturer in Primary Teacher Education with particular expertise in Primary Science. This is a part‑time role (2.5 days per week) on a fixed‑term contract for one year.
Responsibilities- Plan and deliver engaging seminars and lectures, inspiring and supporting student teachers to develop as reflective and effective practitioners.
- Teach across our Primary teacher education programmes and potentially contribute to other programmes within our wider education portfolio.
- Lead taught modules in areas of Primary teacher education and contribute to the ongoing development of our curriculum.
- Support student teachers and school‑based mentors through placement visits and professional development activities, working within the current requirements for Initial Teacher Education.
- Act as a personal tutor to identified groups of students, providing academic guidance and pastoral support throughout the academic year.
- Engage in recruitment activities, including interviewing prospective candidates and contributing to recruitment events, open days and twilight recruitment meetings.
- Have opportunities to lead thematic areas linked to ITE statutory guidance and the evolving Ofsted framework.
- Expertise in Primary education, with particular experience or specialist knowledge in Primary Science.
- Experience supporting student teachers or early career teachers within an educational setting and can demonstrate an understanding of the opportunities, challenges and priorities facing the sector.
- Strong understanding of the requirements and regulatory frameworks associated with Initial Teacher Education, including the quality requirements for initial teacher training introduced in 2024.
- Hold a good first degree together with a PhD in a relevant discipline (imminent completion may be acceptable), or possess equivalent sector experience or qualifications, alongside Qualified Teacher Status.
