We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Fashion Tutor to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in teaching fashion, textiles, and related subjects, particularly in the context of sessional and evening classes. You will be responsible for delivering dynamic and engaging lessons, covering practical and theoretical aspects of fashion, including construction, textiles, and marketing. This role will involve covering staff absences and teaching evening classes. You will be responsible for providing ongoing support, constructive feedback, and ensuring that all students receive a high standard of education in a safe and inclusive environment.

We welcome applications from aspiring teachers who are passionate about sharing their industry skills. At The Manchester College, you will be supported by our Teaching Academy to work towards qualified teacher status for post 16 compulsory education, through a Cert Ed/PGCE. This includes 3-4 hours delivery per week and engagement with a mentor to support your progress in the profession while you work. The starting salary for an unqualified teacher is between £28,300.00 – £30,307.50. It’s a great way to kick-start a rewarding career with full training and support. Once you’ve successfully qualified and demonstrated your teaching competence, you’ll progress to the qualified teacher salary banding.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lesson Planning and Delivery: Plan and deliver engaging, high-quality lessons in fashion disciplines such as fashion construction, textiles, and fashion marketing, tailored for evening classes and sessional hours. Design curriculum content and lesson plans in line with the educational requirements for the students, adapting to various levels and learning styles. Create an interactive and inclusive learning environment that supports both practical and theoretical components of the fashion curriculum.
  • Cover for Staff and Sessional Classes: Deliver lessons in a flexible manner, covering staff absences as needed across different classes and times. Ensure that lesson plans and materials are ready for seamless transitions in cases of short-term coverage.
  • Assessment and Feedback: Assess learners’ progress through assignments, practical tasks, and other methods in line with sessional teaching. Provide constructive and timely feedback to students, helping them progress in their learning journey and meet the course’s expectations. Monitor student progress through ongoing assessments and provide feedback that drives improvement.
  • Fashion Construction and Marketing: Teach fashion construction techniques and equip students with practical skills and industry knowledge. Deliver sessions focused on fashion marketing, preparing students for real-world applications within the fashion industry.
  • Student Support and Development: Foster a positive and motivating learning environment, providing one-on-one support to students who need extra help. Develop strong, supportive relationships with students to ensure they feel confident and engaged in their learning. Promote a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment, safeguarding students' well-being at all times.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork: Work closely with colleagues to ensure a collaborative approach to teaching and a cohesive learning experience for students. Participate in relevant meetings and planning sessions with the department to improve the delivery and content of the curriculum.
  • Maintaining Standards and Compliance: Ensure that lessons, assessments, and feedback are consistent with institutional standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices. Adhere to safeguarding policies and practices, maintaining a safe environment for all students.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
  • Certificate of education or PGCE
  • Current and valid industry specialism
  • Assessor qualifications (if required by Awarding Organisation)
  • Minimum Level 3 occupational qualification
  • English and maths minimum level 2 Grade C or grade 4 and above
  • Significant experience of delivering outstanding teaching and learning
  • Proven track record of high-quality teaching in delivering subject specialism or current valid industry specialism
  • Working as a team
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Meet delivery targets and plans
  • Accurate and timely reports and records
  • Positive contribution to planning processes
