Achievement Tutor (Music) in Manchester

Are you a teacher who’s passionate about guiding students to achieve their full potential both in and out of the classroom? At The Manchester College, we’re looking for Achievement Tutors to support learners' academic success through engaging group tutorials. In this role, you’ll play a vital part in helping students stay on track, meet their goals, and thrive in their studies by delivering outstanding teaching, learning, and assessment via engaging activities, resources, and focused academic coaching while monitoring individual student progress in 1-1 reviews using tools like ProMonitor and Markbook.

You’ll collaborate closely with teaching teams, develop high-quality learning resources, and champion student voice, employability, and achievement at every stage. We have an exciting opportunity at our City Campus Manchester to join us as an Achievement Tutor for Creative Industries (within the Music department) on a permanent, part-time (21 hours per week) basis.

You will manage allocated students/student groups and deliver a highly effective tutorial and pastoral programme which ensures the overall academic, pastoral, social and behavioural progress of students is tracked and supported so students achieve outstanding retention, achievement, progress, and progression outcomes.

To be successful in the role of Achievement Tutor, you will need:

• Certificate of education or PGCE.
• Current and valid industry specialism.
• Assessor qualifications (if required by Awarding Organisation).
• Minimum Level 3 occupational qualification.
• English and maths minimum level 2 Grade C or grade 4 and above.
• Excellent classroom management skills.
• Empathy with young people/adults.
• Flexible and creative approach to tasks.
• A positive and solution-focused approach to challenge.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise with a variety of key student stakeholders.
• A demonstrable track record of effective teaching and delivering in the subject specialism.
• Experience of using IT systems to monitor and track progress.
• Demonstrable organisational skills and the ability to work autonomously.
• Excellent data handling and analysis skills.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• The ability to work effectively in cross-college teams and establish positive relationships and bring about improvements.
• A background/interest in music would be an advantage, though not essential.

We welcome applications from aspiring teachers who are passionate about sharing their industry skills. At The Manchester College, you will be supported by our Teaching Academy to work towards qualified teacher status for post 16 compulsory education, through a Cert Ed/PGCE. This includes 3-4 hours delivery per week and engagement with a mentor to support your progress in the profession while you work. The starting salary for an unqualified teacher is between £30,750 – £32,931. It’s a great way to kick-start a rewarding career with full training and support. Once you’ve successfully qualified and demonstrated your teaching competence, you’ll progress to the qualified teacher salary banding.
