Our new Engineering Maintenance Manager will be a pivotal player to deliver our vision of creating a vibrant, inclusive, ambitious academic community. The Engineering Maintenance Manager is a key operational leadership role within Estates & Facilities, responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the University’s engineering systems, plant and building services across all campuses. The post holder provides day-to-day technical leadership, oversees the delivery of planned and reactive maintenance, and ensures robust statutory compliance across the estate.
Reporting to the Deputy Director of Estates – Maintenance & Capital Works, the role acts as the University’s principal engineering lead for operational decision-making, diagnosing complex technical issues, assuring contractor performance, and supporting project delivery through technical review and engineering oversight. The post holder combines hands-on engineering expertise with team management, system optimisation and data-driven maintenance planning. They play a critical role in ensuring the estate supports teaching, research and professional services effectively, maintaining building performance, resilience, safety and user experience.
This role would suit individuals who have extensive experience in the management of 3rd party suppliers to ensure efficient and effective delivery. Extensive contract management and commercial skills will be essential.
