New City College is seeking to make the appointment to the role of Group Head of Maintenance. New City College is one of the biggest and most successful colleges in the country, made up of local campuses across East London and Essex. In addition, we have language schools in Bournemouth, Oxford and Canterbury – all central to the communities they serve. The campuses have come together through a series of college mergers, designed to increase strength, quality and resilience. The result? New City College is now a firm and influential leader in the further education sector. The estate consists of 10 main campuses / sites across East London and Essex, totalling 143,605m².
Reporting to the Group Director of Estates, the Group Head of Maintenance will lead and develop the college’s maintenance and engineering functions, ensuring a safe, compliant and well-maintained estate. The post holder will manage the day-to-day maintenance team and contractors, oversee planned and reactive works. They will ensure statutory compliance, provide technical leadership, drive continuous improvement, and support a positive health and safety culture across all campuses.
We are seeking an individual who is an experienced Maintenance Leader who can lead and manage a large maintenance team, ensure high performance, clear priorities and effective resource planning. You will be a member of or working towards membership of a relevant professional body such as the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE), Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) or Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and/or proven experience at a senior level. You will have demonstrable experience in overseeing reactive and planned preventative maintenance across a large public sector estate, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and best practice. You will also be highly astute in managing third-party contractors delivering maintenance, compliance and project services, ensuring KPIs and SLAs are met.
