An established building consultancy organisation is seeking an experienced Senior Registered Building Inspector to join its Building Control function at a pivotal time for the profession. This is a senior, hands-on role suited to an RBI looking to apply their technical expertise, support team development, and contribute to safe, compliant and sustainable buildings across a varied portfolio of projects.
The Role
- You will undertake the full range of duties expected of a Registered Building Inspector, operating in line with:
- The Building Act 1984
- Building Safety Act 2022
- RBCA regulations, Operational Standards and professional codes of conduct
- You will manage both restricted and unrestricted activities, advise a wide range of stakeholders, and play a mentoring role within the team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Carrying out site inspections and plan checking in accordance with Building Regulations
- Providing expert technical advice to developers, clients and internal stakeholders
- Dealing with dangerous structures, including participation in an out-of-hours rota
- Liaising with fire authorities, planning, utilities and other statutory bodies
- Supporting service performance, financial monitoring and fee recovery
- Assisting with workload allocation and supervision of colleagues
- Maintaining accurate digital records and reports
- Preparing evidence and supporting enforcement action where required
The role involves autonomous working across site, office and remote locations.
About You
- You will be a Registered Building Inspector, holding a minimum Class 2D licence (or above)
- Experienced in both site-based and office-based functions under the Building Regulations
- Confident working with complex legislation, including dangerous structures
- Comfortable engaging with stakeholders at all levels, even in challenging situations
- An effective mentor who understands the limits of their own competence
You will also need:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Good digital capability (e.g. Microsoft or equivalent systems)
- Excellent time management and planning skills
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
