As a Production Team Leader you will lead a team of operatives producing Milled Dispersions and Formulated Solutions products in accordance with our standard operating procedures on a lower tier COMAH registered Chemical Manufacturing Plant. Answer to the Production Manager and work autonomously in day‑to‑day operations, fault diagnosis, escalating issues, and ensuring targets are met. You will coordinate labour and product priorities, liaise with Production management, Supply chain, and Quality, and collaborate on production matters. You will also operate across FS/MD areas, manage incident control when emergencies arise, and ensure compliance with ISO9001/14001, COMAH & IPPC, process instructions, Engineering, and QHSE procedures.
Responsibilities
- Manage, mentor, and develop operations staff to achieve daily targets in line with KPIs.
- Synchronise production weekly and short‑term scheduling to maximise on‑time deliveries and keep inventory on target.
- Ensure products are manufactured in accordance with health, safety, environmental and quality requirements.
- Coaching Production Operators and technical operators to achieve production goals.
- Execute production strategies and plan for improved technologies to ensure continuous improvement in operational productivity.
- Lead continuous improvement project teams (5S / Structured Problem Solving / HPI) to enhance QHSE standards and process efficiencies.
- Oversee sampling and in‑process analysis to confirm product specifications.
- Maintain operating procedures including ISO standards, COMAH, and QHSE, and issue permits and manage contractors.
- Serve as incident controller during emergencies, implementing procedures, accounting for staff, and coordinating with emergency services.
- Collaborate with technical support and management on investigative programmes, experimental projects, and new product introductions.
Qualifications
- Previous experience leading and developing a team.
- GCSE or equivalent in Mathematics, English and Chemistry or vocational qualification plus minimum 5 years’ experience in chemical manufacturing.
- Proficiency with computer systems (SAP, MS Office) and strong numeracy/literacy skills.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing techniques and structured problem solving.
- QHSE awareness and compliance with safe systems of work.
- Maintenance skills for engineering tasks as needed.
- Forklift licence (desired).
