The Standard is a media owner that provides Culture & News for Londoners everywhere.

Through our story-first digital centric publishing we deliver content across Digital, Audio, Video, Social platforms and are launching a new weekly print product.

We are based in Finsbury Square, London.

About you

You are an experienced, collaborative and results-driven News Reporter capable of working across multiple platforms. You have a successful track record of producing exclusive stories, pictures and video and cover breaking news across digital and print products.

Skills and experience

You will have:

• Considerable experience as a News Reporter working across digital and print platforms.

• Strong contacts to inform exclusive and impactful coverage.

• Ability to work collaboratively and constructively as part of a team through a period of

transformation.

• You have expertise in SEO best practices and their use in digital content.

The team and role purpose

The Newsdesk is at the heart of the Standard with a long-standing reputation for breaking exclusive, agenda[1]setting stories that are followed by national news brands, broadcasters and media around the world.

A Newsdesk Reporter’s role is to help the Standard’s news team produce exclusive, digital first content across all platforms and be first with breaking news.

To build a collaborative team everyone will be expected to be in the office a minimum of four days a week when working week-day daytime shifts. This will apply on a pro-rated basis for those who are part-time.

Successful candidates will be expected to take a flexible approach to working patterns and to be available to work evenings and weekends if required by their departmental rota.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

• Helping to produce digital first stories, pictures, video and audio content for the Standard across all platforms.

• Ensuring the Evening Standard continues to be first with breaking news.

• Making sure content is delivered in a timely manner, legally safe and compliant form.

• A good understanding of media law and the Editors’ Code of Practice to ensure all content is legally safe and compliant with expected standards.

• Fluent in Flow, Atex and all other relevant systems

• Helping to make sure that all digital content is optimised for search engines, driving organic traffic and improving our visibility in search results.

• Responsibility as part of the team to help ensure that newsroom targets are hit under the guidance of senior executives.

• Working with the standard’s commercial department to ensure editorial is able to support

commercial endeavours.
