The Standard is a media owner that provides Culture & News for Londoners everywhere.
Through our story-first digital centric publishing we deliver content across Digital, Audio, Video, Social platforms and are launching a new weekly print product.
We are based in Finsbury Square, London.
About you
You are an experienced, collaborative and results-driven sub-editor. You have a successful track record of working in a newsroom or magazine production team on both print and digital products.
Skills and experience
- Experience as a sub-editor within a news organisation or magazine and across print and digital platforms.
- The ability to edit copy quickly, accurately and to the highest standard.
- Impeccable grammar, spelling and punctuation.
- Strong fact-checking skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- The ability to write sparkling headlines and furniture.
- Demonstrable working knowledge of media law, ideally with a recognised journalistic qualification.
- The ability to cultivate strong working relationships with colleagues, working collaboratively to solve problems and balance competing demands.
- Experience using Adobe InCopy and InDesign.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities
- Primarily sub-editing copy for The London Standard weekly newspaper, as well as the Standard website when required.
- Ensuring copy is legally safe, accurate and conforms to house style.
- Working with the Head of Production and Senior Sub-Editor to sub-edit and proofread a broad range of content, from in-depth investigations and news nibs to fashion, culture, travel and business.
- Writing engaging headlines and captions.
- Helping to make sure all digital content is optimised for search engines, driving organic traffic and improving our visibility in search results.
- Selecting the best pictures and strongest headlines, including SEO-driven headlines for our digital products.
