Full-time, fixed term: 26th June 2026 – 26th July 2026 in Central London.

Salary: £15 per hour (including holiday pay pro rata).

Working hours: 6 days per week with 1 fixed day off per week. Monday to Friday: 13:30-22:00. Weekend hours TBC dependent on airport transfers and activity programme.

Established in 1912, we are amongst the world's oldest English language schools. In 2026, the London School of English will run its third residential summer programme for international students. The Young Adults Summer Programme is for students aged 15-18 and comprises two consecutive 2-week courses.

The course participants study for approximately 25 hours each week during weekday morning and early afternoons. In the late afternoons and evenings – and during each middle weekend – a ‘social & activities programme’ is offered, whereby our students will participate in various sporting, cultural and social events. During these activities periods, students are supervised and cared for by a team of Activities Leaders.

The Activities Leader position involves supervising, entertaining and supporting the students while encouraging their participation, engagement and enjoyment. The Activities Leader reports to the Welfare Manager.

You will spend afternoons, evenings and weekends with the students, accompanying them on trips to entertainment venues and tourist attractions, and spending time with them at the student residence during mealtimes and other social occasions. The role requires energy, enthusiasm and a strong willingness to work with young people. The role is residential and includes all meals. Daily hours may vary, but work will normally begin at 1:30pm and finish at 10pm Monday to Friday. Weekend hours will depend on the trips planned.

On a day-to-day basis, you will take registrations throughout the day to maintain attendance records and spend time with the Young Adults in informal settings such as local parks and gardens, as well as actively participate in games and activities such as bowling, escape rooms and karaoke. Alongside the delivery of the activities programme, you will play a pastoral role in supporting students’ social and emotional needs. Many may feel lonely, homesick or disorientated; the role necessarily also involves anticipating and reacting to students’ emotional needs, as well as disciplinary issues as and when they arise.

Job Description

  • Participate in the delivery of the activities programmes by accompanying students to entertainment venues and tourist attractions, and participating in games and activities.
  • Greet students at airports upon arrival and escort them to the student residence on the first day of each course.
  • Escort students to airports on the last day of each course.
  • Support the students emotionally and pastorally throughout their stay.
  • Accompany and supervise students during breakfast and dinner times.
  • Any other duties consistent with the role.

Person Specification

  • Desirable Qualifications Level 1 Child Protection & Safeguarding (we will provide training).
  • Emergency [paediatric] First Aid.
  • Work experience with under 18s in some capacity (may involve work experience or voluntary roles).
  • Work in educational environments.
  • Work in travel/tourism.
  • Work in childcare contexts.
  • Working with children in controlled environments.
  • Working with children in residential settings.
