We are seeking a motivated, independent, and highly skilled Pre-Doctoral Research Assistant to work under the direction of Dr Daniel Chandler on the Huth Initiative for a New Political Economy (HINPE). HINPE is a major new research programme at LSE that brings together leading academics to develop the ideas, policies and institutions for a fairer and more sustainable economic system. The Initiative includes both a core research programme and a Policy Hub focused on translating ideas into practice, and is designed to grow over time into a permanent Institute for a New Political Economy.
The main purpose of the role will be to support Dr Chandler’s research programme in the fields of economics, public policy and political philosophy, with a focus on two broad areas: (1) predistribution and good jobs; (2) community and cohesion. The role will involve undertaking tasks including conducting literature reviews; identifying, managing and analysing data sets; overseeing projects and helping to organise research-related events and convenings. It is also expected that the successful candidate will become an active participant in the research programme.

- Completed Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) and/or completed (or near-completed) Master’s degree in economics, political science, or a closely related discipline. Candidates with training across both political philosophy and economics are encouraged to apply.
- Strong empirical research skills, including proficiency in statistical programming (particularly Stata) and a solid understanding of econometric techniques.
- Demonstrated experience working on data-related research projects.
- Excellent writing and communication skills, ability to organise and synthesise complex information, and an interest in public policy.
