The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) is seeking to appoint a Director of Capital Development to lead its award‑winning Estates Capital Development Team. LSE was founded in 1895 and has grown to become one of the foremost social science universities in the world. Renowned for its academic excellence and cutting edge research, LSE offers a dynamic and diverse environment where students from over 150 countries come together to explore, innovate and shape the future.

The LSE Estates Division is responsible for developing and implementing the LSE Estates Strategy in support of the School’s strategic objectives. The Estates Capital Development team has enjoyed unprecedented success in recent years, with acclaimed major projects gaining Stirling Prize nominations, ‘client of the year’ accolades and multiple national and international design awards. Situated in the heart of London, the estate is an iconic blend of historic and contemporary architecture and will be further enhanced by ambitious plans to deliver new world‑class developments.

The Director of Capital Development will work closely with the Director of Estates on the realisation of the LSE Estates Strategy and Capital Development programme. You will lead a team responsible for project delivery from brief development and design management through to procurement and construction on a diverse portfolio of complex new‑build, refurbishment, fit‑out, long‑term maintenance and decarbonisation projects, including major projects up to £200m in value.

We are seeking an individual with a proven track record of leading a portfolio of capital projects in a relatable setting, and who has a commitment to the delivery of projects that meet the highest standards of design quality and sustainability. You will have a high degree of commercial acumen, with experience of effective supplier management and contract procurement in the delivery of capital projects and programmes.

The role calls for an individual with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, who is adept at successfully developing and managing relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders. We are seeking an inspirational person who is motivated by the opportunity to lead and develop team members and who has a proven track record of delivering high‑profile and complex capital projects in a demanding and fast‑paced environment.
