Want to come and work for the top university in the UK with a world-class estate? The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) is seeking to appoint an Assistant Director of Capital Development to take a lead role in delivering its next generation of major capital projects, including acting as Project Director for the transformational Bankside House Redevelopment.
LSE was founded in 1895 and has grown to become one of the foremost social science universities in the world. Renowned for its academic excellence and cutting-edge research, LSE offers a dynamic and diverse environment where students from over 150 countries come together to explore, innovate and shape the future. Ranked as the number one university in the UK in 2025 and 2026 by The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide, LSE continues to set new standards for higher education.
The LSE Estates Division is responsible for developing and implementing the LSE Estates Strategy in support of the School’s strategic objectives. The Estates Capital Development team has enjoyed unprecedented success in recent years, with acclaimed major projects gaining Stirling Prize nominations, 'client of the year' accolades and numerous national and international design awards. Situated in the heart of London, the estate is an iconic blend of historic and contemporary architecture and will be further enhanced by ambitious plans to deliver new world-class developments.
The Assistant Director of Capital Development will play a key role in this programme, taking direct leadership of major capital schemes both residential and academic. The initial priority for the postholder will be the Bankside House Redevelopment, one of LSE’s most significant and high-profile projects — a complex, residential development directly behind Tate Modern, with ambitious sustainability and design aspirations. You will lead the project on the client side through planning, procurement, construction and handover, ensuring high-quality delivery that meets LSE’s exacting standards.
We are seeking an individual with a proven track record of delivering large-scale (£50m+) capital projects in a comparable setting. You will bring a high degree of commercial acumen, experience of managing consultant and contractor teams, and a commitment to achieving outstanding design, environmental performance and user experience. Experience of working on projects with similar characteristics to Bankside — DBFO commercial JV partners, developments in urban environments, PBSA and multi-stakeholders — would be highly advantageous.
This is a rare and exciting opportunity to lead one of the most prominent university residential buildings of this decade in the heart of London. The candidate pack can be viewed here. For a confidential discussion please contact our advisor Nick Coppard (nicholas.coppard@mrgglobal.com) of MRG. Applications should consist of a CV and supporting statement and should be sent to nicholas.coppard@mrgglobal.com. The closing date for applications is 1st March 2026. Interviews are scheduled for March 2026.
LSE is committed to building a diverse, equitable and truly inclusive university. We encourage and welcome applications from all sections of the community.
