Assistant Professor of Philosophy
Salary is no less than ÂŁ68,087 per annum and the salary scale can be found on the LSE website.
This appointment is tenable from 1 September 2026
The Department of Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Method is committed to doing philosophy in a manner that is continuous with the social and natural sciences and socially relevant. It is also committed to creating an inclusive environment for philosophical debate that engages with a wide range of perspectives. It seeks to appoint an Assistant Professor who will contribute to the intellectual life of the Department and the School by publishing outstanding research, engaging in excellent teaching, taking on assigned administrative roles, and participating in the wider activities of both.
Candidates must haveexpertise and research interests in an area of philosophy and a demonstrable ability to conduct research that has a substantial connection to Artificial Intelligence (AI). We interpret a substantial connection to AI broadly to include, for example, the intersection of AI and philosophy of science, AI and logic/formal methods, AI and moral and political philosophy, and/or AI and philosophy of law. C andidates must be willing and able to make a substantial research-led contribution to the Department’s core teaching provision. (More information about our courses can be found here .)
Candidates willhave a track record or trajectory of internationally excellent publications and proven ability or potential to publish in leading journals or with leading book publishers in philosophy. Candidates must also have a well-developed strategy for future outstanding research that has the potential to result in world-leading publications. They will have, or be close to obtaining, a PhD in philosophy or a closely related field by the post start date. In addition, candidates will have aproven commitment to high quality teaching and to fostering a positive learning environment, as evidenced by feedback from students and colleagues.
