Position: Assistant or Associate Professor in Development Economics

The Department of International Development invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor in Development Economics. We are a vibrant multidisciplinary department seeking candidates at the frontier of macro- or micro- development economics, with strong skills in empirical causal inference and a demonstrated interest in field-based research.
Responsibilities
- Shape and contribute to the MSc in Economic Policy for International Development (EPID).
- Deliver high-quality teaching at the MSc and PhD levels to students across the department.
- Engage in multidisciplinary collaboration and contribute to the intellectual life of the School through conducting and publishing outstanding research.
- Participate in teaching as instructed by the Head of Department and participate in School and Departmental activities.
Qualifications
- Assistant Professor level: PhD (or near completion by start date) in a relevant field; demonstrated ability to conduct quantitative empirical research using modern causal inference methods; ability to publish internationally in top economics journals.
- Associate Professor level: additional evidence of world-leading research published in top economics journals, international reputation in development economics, a strong pipeline of work in progress, and a clear, well-developed future research strategy with potential for world-leading publications.
Start Date
The start date is ideally by 1 September 2026.
Salary and Benefits
- Assistant Professor salary is no less than ÂŁ68,087 per annum.
- Associate Professor salary is no less than ÂŁ80,927 per annum.
- The salary scale is available on the LSE website; a significant market salary supplement may be applicable in some disciplines.
