About the London Metal Exchange and LME Clear: The London Metal Exchange (LME) is the world centre for industrial metals trading. Overall Purpose of Role: We are looking for a government relations professional to support the Group in ensuring the LME is kept up to date with relevant regulatory, policy and legislative change in the UK and abroad. This will involve working closely with the business, trade associations, external regulatory consultancies, relevant domestic policymakers such as FCA/Bank of England/HMT, and international policymakers such as IOSCO. The role holder will also be responsible for building and maintaining the LME’s relations with politicians. You will have experience in a similar role in a regulated trading venue, relevant trade association or relevant policymaker (FCA, Bank of England, HMT or EU institution) and have a strong demonstrable working knowledge of the regulatory environment applicable to the financial services industry.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the LME in developing an effective process for compiling policy positions with the business and work closely with the Regulation team to coordinate consultation responses and advocacy efforts.
  • Co-ordinate and help develop messaging and corporate positioning on key issues and policy areas and work with broader communications team on copywriting for key campaigns (internal or external), advocacy, strategy and promotional opportunities.
  • Build links with relevant political stakeholders and groups to raise understanding of the LME and our place within financial services.
  • Make effective use of information sources: monitoring services, law firms, trade associations and industry engagement to build a comprehensive view of forthcoming legislative change.
  • Ensure internal LME Group stakeholders remain up-to-date on all relevant regulatory developments within the UK and internationally in order to be able to effect necessary change.
  • Create regular reports for senior management outlining key changes or developments with regards to the LME’s key legislative dossiers.
  • Engage directly with, and participate in, relevant working groups across the LME Group’s trade association membership (FIA/CMCE/ISDA/The City UK).
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to provide guidance and advocacy support on key regulatory areas of focus.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

Academic and Professional Qualifications Required: Degree level or equivalent professional qualification preferred.

Required Knowledge and Level of Experience: The role holder will have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a relevant policy/government relations role. An ability to deal with and influence a wide range of stakeholders of varying levels of experience and seniority will be necessary. Being able to build strong relationships, trust and to achieve results through others is a key quality for the role. The role holder will have demonstrated experience of policy analysis, condensing dense, complicated text into easily digestible formats and communicating with internal and external stakeholders in a clear, confident, and efficient manner. Good understanding of the UK political environment and experience of representing or advocating for an organisation to government representatives/policy makers or having worked for politicians/policy makers. The role holder will be able to evidence strong knowledge and experience of the UK Financial Services landscape, and the regulatory environment(s) applicable to it.

  • Solid experience of regulation and/or regulatory policy.
