Located in Sittingbourne, Kent, the Garden of England Crematorium offers a peaceful setting for remembrance. We are looking for a passionate and creative Head Gardener to lead the care and development of our grounds, ensuring an environment of comfort, dignity, and natural beauty.
Salary: Up to £32,000 per annum (based on skills and experience). This role also offers a range of benefits (details available upon request).
Responsibilities:
- Oversee all aspects of horticultural care, including planting, pruning, lawn maintenance, and seasonal upkeep.
- Lead and motivate a small dedicated team, providing training, guidance, and hands‑on support.
- Manage ordering, supplier relationships, and the administrative elements of grounds management.
- Develop creative planting schemes and maintain memorial areas to a consistently high standard.
- Ensure all tools, machinery, and equipment are safely maintained and compliant with regulations.
- Uphold sustainable gardening practices and care for wildlife‑friendly habitats.
- Keep front‑of‑house and chapel flower courts pristine and service‑ready each day.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Strong plant knowledge, including expertise in roses and memorial planting.
- Positive leadership skills with the ability to inspire a small team.
- A proactive, self‑motivated approach and attention to detail.
- Competence in machinery use and basic maintenance.
- Experience of sustainable, environmentally friendly practices.
- IT literacy and familiarity with Microsoft Office.
- PA1, PA2, PA6 spraying certificates and proficiency with tractors, ride‑on mowers, hedge trimmers, and basic groundwork or fencing is desirable.
- Will undertake FBCA Cremator Technician training, fully funded by the company.
