A little about the role:
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Scrub Theatre Practitioner to join our Orthopaedic Theatres team at The London Clinic. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled and motivated theatre professional who is passionate about delivering outstanding patient care and supporting complex orthopaedic procedures within one of the UK’s leading independent charitable hospitals. You will spend the majority of your time supporting a varied orthopaedic caseload, including major joint replacement surgery, complex revision procedures, spinal surgery, sports injury surgery and other specialist orthopaedic interventions. As part of our collaborative theatre department, you will also support other surgical specialties when required. Alongside your clinical responsibilities, you will act as a senior member of the team, coordinating theatre activity, mentoring junior colleagues and supporting the continued development of our services.
What you’ll be doing:
- Act as the Scrub Practitioner for a wide range of complex orthopaedic procedures.
- Support consultants throughout surgery and undertake Surgical First Assistant duties where appropriately qualified.
- Coordinate theatre activities to help operating lists run safely, smoothly and efficiently.
- Monitor and manage specialist equipment, implants and surgical consumables.
- Support, supervise and mentor junior members of the theatre team.
- Promote best practice, patient safety and clinical excellence across the department.
- Contribute to service improvement initiatives, audits and quality projects.
- Support the Theatre Leadership Team with the day to day management of the department.
- Maintain the highest standards of perioperative patient care.
- Work collaboratively with surgeons, anaesthetists, practitioners and wider multidisciplinary colleagues.
What we’re looking for:
- Current NMC or HCPC registration.
- Strong Orthopaedic Scrub experience.
- Significant post registration experience within theatres.
- Previous Band 6 experience within an operating theatre environment.
- Experience leading, mentoring and supporting colleagues.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to work effectively within a busy and complex surgical environment.
- A strong commitment to patient safety and outstanding patient care.
- A recognised Surgical First Assistant qualification (not essential).
