A little about the role

Join our dedicated Oncology team at a leading independent hospital with charitable status, where exceptional patient care and clinical excellence are at the heart of everything we do.

As a Resident Oncology Fellow, you’ll work closely with our experienced Consultants and nursing teams, providing high-quality medical and clinical support to patients across our Oncology ward, Outpatient Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy Units. You’ll play an important role in supporting patient treatment, managing symptoms and responding appropriately to changes in patients’ conditions.

The role also provides valuable experience across our wider oncology and haematology services, including providing out-of-hours cover for the Haematology ward at nights and weekends.

You’ll build strong relationships with patients, their families and the wider multidisciplinary team, ensuring care is delivered safely, compassionately and to the highest standards. You’ll also be responsible for maintaining accurate clinical records and contributing to effective reporting and audit processes.

What you’ll be doing

• Provide clinical care and supervision to Oncology inpatients and outpatients receiving chemotherapy and radiotherapy, working closely with Consultants and the multidisciplinary team.
• Assess and clinically evaluate patients before and during chemotherapy, escalating concerns and changes in condition appropriately.
• Support the management of acute oncology presentations, including neutropenic sepsis, treatment‑related toxicities and other oncological emergencies.
• Attend daily ward rounds, Unit meetings, Cancer MDTs and other relevant clinical meetings as required.
• Provide emergency and urgent medical support to patients across the DDW wing, including out‑of‑hours cover as required.
• Support the Haematology team, including weekend and out‑of‑hours cover, working closely with the Consultant Haematologist.
• Prescribe non‑chemotherapy medication, complete drug charts and TTOs, and ensure appropriate investigations are arranged within scope of practice.
• Following appropriate training, approve chemotherapy go‑ahead using MOSAIQ and update patient records on ARIA as required.
• Ensure effective handover and clear, accurate and timely clinical documentation, including discharge summaries.
• Work collaboratively with Consultants, nursing, pharmacy, palliative care and other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective and compassionate patient care.
• Provide holistic support to patients and their families, referring to appropriate support services where required.
• Support and provide guidance to Locum Clinical Fellows and contribute to a positive learning environment.
• Participate in clinical and medical audit, M&M meetings, SJR reviews and quality improvement initiatives, sharing learning with the wider team.
• Participate in CPD, training, appraisal and job planning, maintaining professional development in line with GMC requirements.
• Maintain compliance with GMC standards, Clinic policies, health and safety requirements, confidentiality and relevant regulatory and best‑practice frameworks.
• Demonstrate the values and professional standards of The London Clinic and undertake other duties appropriate to the role and level of competence as required by the Clinical Line Manager or Medical Director.

What we’re looking for

Experience

• Completion of Foundation Training (FY1/FY2) or equivalent.
• Minimum of 3 years' post‑qualification medical/surgical experience.
• Experience in acute medicine, with exposure to high‑dependency or intensive care environments.
• Confident in the initial assessment and management of deteriorating patients.

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong clinical decision‑making skills, with the ability to work independently within scope of practice and elevate appropriately.
• Ability to assess and manage patients presenting with acute oncology or medical conditions.
• Able to prioritise effectively and work collaboratively across inpatient, outpatient and ambulatory settings.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with patients, Consultants and multidisciplinary teams.
• Competent in routine clinical procedures expected of a doctor at this level.
• Ability to interpret routine investigations, including blood results, blood gases, ECGs and chest X‑rays, and recognise when further investigation or escalation is required.

Qualifications

• MBBS or equivalent.
• Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
• Advanced Life Support (ALS) or Intermediate Life Support (ILS) qualification.
