We are recruiting experienced Band 5 and Band 6 ICU nurses to care for patients with complex critical care needs. You will work alongside specialist nursing and medical colleagues, contributing your clinical experience to a team that relies on clear communication, collaboration and sound judgement.
A little about the role:
- As a bank nurse, you bring valuable experience to every shift. In our ICU, you will use that experience to assess patients' needs, deliver individualised care and respond to changes in their condition, working closely with nursing colleagues, ICU Fellows, Consultants, physiotherapists and pharmacists.
- Alongside managing complex clinical care, you will provide reassurance and clear information to patients and their families, helping them understand what is happening at a difficult time.
- For Band 6 equivalent shifts, your role will also include supporting bedside nurses and coordinating the shift, providing clinical guidance and helping the team manage changing priorities.
What you'll be doing:
- Assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating individualised, evidence based care for your allocated patients.
- Managing critical care therapies within your competence, including mechanical ventilation, invasive haemodynamic monitoring, inotropic support and continuous renal replacement therapy.
- Recognising changes in patients' conditions, escalating concerns promptly and responding to emergencies.
- Administering medicines and treatments safely in line with hospital policies and professional guidance.
- Working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team and communicating clearly with patients and their families.
- Maintaining accurate clinical records, providing structured handovers and completing daily safety checks.
- Supporting bedside nurses and coordinating the shift when undertaking Band 6 equivalent duties.
What we're looking for:
- Current NMC registration as an Adult Nurse.
- At least 12 months of post registration experience in an adult intensive care or critical care setting, caring for Level 2 and Level 3 patients.
- Current Immediate Life Support certification.
- Competence in caring for ventilated patients, invasive haemodynamic monitoring, inotropic support and continuous renal replacement therapy.
- Competence in intravenous medicine administration.
- Strong clinical assessment, prioritisation, escalation and communication skills.
- Availability to undertake day shifts.
- A commitment to maintaining the mandatory training and clinical competencies required for bank practice.
For Band 6 shifts, you must also have:
- A recognised post registration qualification in intensive care or critical care.
- Substantial ICU experience at Band 6 or above.
- Experience supporting bedside nurses and coordinating ICU shifts.
- Experience caring for complex surgical patients, mentoring colleagues or working in private healthcare would be desirable.
