An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lead Technician – Workforce Development and Medicines Management Technician, Band 7 to join our Pharmacy Team at The London Clinic. The London Clinic's Pharmacy Department is a close‑knit team of around 45 staff members, comprising nine core services: On Call, Dispensary Services, Distribution and Top‑Up Service, Procurement, Clinical Ward Pharmacy Services, Provision of Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN), Aseptic/Technical Services, Clinical Governance and Education and Training. We provide extensive oncology services, a purpose‑built chemotherapy aseptic compounding suite, and an automated medication dispensing system that supports decentralised medicine management in numerous wards.

The Lead Technician will lead the education and training strategy for the pharmacy department, working with pharmacists, technicians, students, assistant technical officers and apprentices. The postholder will also lead the Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician (MMPT) ward‑based service, ensuring high standards of patient care and medicines optimisation. Support will be provided to Accredited Checking Technicians (ACTs) in the dispensary to promote safe and efficient dispensing processes.

  • Job Type: Permanent, 37.5 hours per week

  • Salary: Band 7 equivalent salary range on offer based on skills and experience

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the MMPT ward‑based service, including medicines reconciliation, PODs assessment, patient counselling, and discharge planning.
  • Participate in the MMPT service when required.
  • Line‑manage MMPT pharmacy technicians, providing supervision, support and performance reviews.
  • Monitor service KPIs and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with clinical teams to enhance medicines optimisation and patient safety.
  • Lead and contribute to audits and publish SMART action plans to drive service improvement.

Skills & Experience

  • Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council of Great Britain
  • NVQ Level 3 in pharmaceutical sciences or equivalent
  • Accreditation in Medicines Management (AIMM) or Medicines Optimisation Programme (MOP) or equivalent
  • Accredited Checking Technician (ACPT)
  • 3 years post‑qualification experience, with a minimum of 1 year in a senior technician role
