Key Duties

  • Welcome and support patients attending for oncology treatments and consultations
  • Provide assistance with personal care, mobility, comfort, and nutritional needs
  • Monitor and report patient observations to the nursing team
  • Prepare treatment areas, equipment, and materials for clinical procedures
  • Work in accordance with infection prevention and control standards
  • Maintain accurate records of care provided
  • Help to ensure the department remains clean, well‑organised, and stocked

Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience as a Healthcare Assistant in a hospital or clinical setting is essential
  • Experience in oncology or outpatient care is desirable, but not essential
  • A caring and patient‑focused approach, with excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Care Certificate or NVQ Level 2/3 in Health and Social Care, or willingness to work towards this

Working closely with our specialist nurses and multi‑disciplinary colleagues, you will help prepare patients for their appointments, support them during treatments, and assist in maintaining a calm, safe, and supportive environment. Our main hospital spans 8 floors comprising of 234 beds and 10 theatres, and The Duchess of Devonshire Wing is our award‑winning cancer centre, which includes state‑of‑the‑art radiotherapy, chemotherapy suites and 47 dedicated patient bedrooms for Oncology & Haematology patients.
