We have an exciting opportunity for a Head of Health and Safety to join us here at The London Clinic, based at our main hospital site in London (W1G 6BW). We are offering a competitive salary plus a fantastic array of benefits. Established in 1932, The London Clinic is one of the UK’s largest private hospitals, with 8 state‑of‑the‑art facilities, and circa 1350 employees where we are dedicated to providing our patients with expert, individualised treatment and care.

Our main hospital spans 8 floors comprising of 150+ patient beds and 10 operating theatres, including a Hybrid theatre and two minimally invasive / day surgery theatres. Speciality areas include General surgery, ENT, Gynaecology, Hepatobiliary, Neuro‑spinal, Ophthalmic, Orthopaedic, Plastic and reconstructive, Robotic, Urology, Vascular & Weight loss surgery (bariatric surgery).

Reporting to the Patient Services and Strategic Programmes Director, you will be responsible for being the primary lead for operational fire, security and health and safety management. Providing subject matter expertise, and compliance assurance for all aspects of fire, security and health and safety. You have a pragmatic attitude and will be visible in both presence and support, delivering service excellence in all the above aspects.

This is a full‑time, permanent position working 37.5 hours per week. Shift Pattern: Monday to Friday – 9am to 5.30pm. Job Location: 20 Devonshire Place, London, W1G 6BW (Close to Regents Park / Baker St tube stations).

Key Duties:
  • To provide authoritative expert professional advice on fire protection, including emergency routes & exits, fire detection & warning systems, fire‑fighting equipment, emergency preparedness and response, evacuation plans, needs of vulnerable people (including Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans and General Emergency Evacuation Plans and use of suitable evacuation aids).
  • To identify fire safety training needs ensuring delivery of that training to an exacting standard that achieves both outcomes and builds engagement as well as confidence from stakeholders.
  • Lead, manage, and develop the Security team, working closely with the Estates team.
  • Partner with the Property Directorate ensuring compliance across H&S, fire safety, security and CDM, maintain and where necessary design safe systems of work – including permits to work, control of contractor and local procedures – which will enable the team to manage their own safe systems of work.
  • Maintain and update the organisational health, safety and wellbeing policy and strategy.
  • Support health and safety business partner and departmental health and safety leads to undertake inspections and risk assessments, ensuring that actions identified are addressed and closed out and the health and safety risk assessment register maintained.
Skills & Experience:
  • Qualification and/or professional membership appropriate to the role in Fire Safety Management, FPA, NEBOSH, IOSHH, Institute Fire Engineers Diploma or equivalent.
  • CMIOSH qualified health and safety professional.
  • Demonstrable experience of fire safety, security and health and safety across a complex multi‑site environment.
  • Proven track record of managing effective relationships with leaders, peers, colleagues, partners and stakeholders.
  • You will have a pragmatic attitude and take a hands‑on approach.
