Overview
Our Theatre department consists of 10 operating theatres, supporting a wide range of elective and complex surgical procedures across multiple specialties. The Orthopaedic service is a key part of the department, working alongside consultants and MDT teams to deliver patient-focused outcomes. This role sits within the Orthopaedic team, where you will support a varied orthopaedic caseload, including major joint replacement surgery, complex revision procedures, spinal surgery, sports injury surgery and other specialist orthopaedic interventions. You will also support other specialties as service needs require in a collaborative theatre department. The role offers exposure to complex cases and advanced surgical techniques, fostering opportunities to further develop orthopaedic expertise while working alongside leading surgeons.
Responsibilities
- Act as the Scrub Practitioner for a wide range of Orthopaedic procedures
- Support Consultants during surgery and undertake Surgical First Assistant duties where qualified
- Coordinate theatre activities to ensure operating lists run smoothly and efficiently
- Monitor equipment, implants and surgical consumables
- Support and mentor junior members of the theatre team
- Promote best practice, patient safety and clinical excellence
- Contribute to service improvement initiatives and quality projects
- Support the Theatre Leadership Team with the day to day management of the department
- Ensure the highest standards of perioperative patient care are maintained at all times
Qualifications
- Current NMC or HCPC registration
- Strong Orthopaedic Scrub experience
- Previous Band 6 experience within an operating theatre environment
- Experience leading and supporting teams
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- The ability to work effectively in a fast paced surgical environment
- A Surgical First Assistant qualification would be advantageous
