Overview
In Havering, you will provide practical, person-centred welfare support to families and residents, helping them access housing, benefits, education, health services, and language support. You will collaborate with council services, voluntary partners, sponsors and community organisations to prevent homelessness and support safe, settled outcomes. Expect a front-facing role that balances immediate welfare needs with longer-term resettlement goals, contributing to service improvement and upholding safeguarding and resident-focused standards. You will work independently within a team to maintain records and coordinate with multiple partners, delivering high-quality, compassionate support.
Responsibilities
- Provide practical, preventative welfare support to families and residents
- Assist access to housing, benefits, education, health services, and language support
- Collaborate with internal services and external partners to prevent homelessness and promote resettlement
- Manage caseloads, maintain accurate records, and use case management and IT systems
- Liaise with sponsors, landlords, and community organisations to resolve issues
- Ensure fairness, safeguarding, and resident-focused support in all interactions
- Balance immediate welfare needs with longer-term resettlement outcomes
- Contribute to service improvement and high-quality customer service
Key requirements
- Numerate and literate
- Experience in customer-focused, community support
- Experience with vulnerable residents and partner agencies (desirable)
- Ability to manage caseloads and use IT systems to record activity
- Front-facing service experience and ability to build trust with diverse backgrounds
