Overview

In this role you will manage Pension Fund finance policies, strategies and activities to deliver approved plans and ensure accurate accounting and reporting for the LGPS. You will build relationships with the Pension Fund Committee, Board, actuary, advisers, custodian and managers, aligning strategies with regulation and council policy. You will participate in the London CIV to broaden investment opportunities and control costs. You are accountable for LGPS finance activity, PF accounts production, and the annual report in line with regulations and policy.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee pension fund finance policies, strategies and service improvements to deliver approved business plans
  • Produce pension fund accounts and the annual report in compliance with regulation and council policy
  • Manage related budgets and provide budget information as required
  • Build effective relationships with the Pension Fund Committee, Pension Fund Board, actuary, advisers, custodian and managers
  • Contribute to London CIV (London Councils) to enhance investment opportunities and minimize costs
  • Supervise staff and oversee large contracts relevant to pension fund finance
  • Ensure adherence to prevailing regulation and pension fund contracts
  • Support governance processes and reporting to committees

Key requirements

  • Extensive Local Government Finance experience in producing financial accounts
  • Experience producing LGPS Pension Fund accounts and supporting a committee
  • Experience managing staff and large contracts
  • Strong knowledge of LGPS regulations and public sector accounting practices
  • Ability to develop and implement pension fund financial strategies and policies
  • Stakeholder relationship management
