Production Manager in London

The London Art Works Ltd is a fine and high jewellery manufacturing workshop in Hatton Garden, London. We are a trade-only manufacturer: we make in platinum and gold for some of the most established names in the British jewellery trade, working to their designs and under their names. The workshop combines traditional bench craftsmanship with modern manufacturing techniques, and everything we make is held to one standard that does not vary with pressure, volume or deadline. We are based at 5 St Cross Street, London EC1N 8UB.

Role Description

Please note before applying: we will only consider applicants with production management experience within jewellery manufacturing. Without it, please do not apply.

The Production Manager is a full-time, permanent, on-site role at our Hatton Garden workshop, reporting to Tom Marshall, Managing Director. You will take ownership of the planning and management of commissions and stock production, from initial brief through to final completion. Day to day you will:

• Plan, organise and schedule production across multiple live commissions;
• Prepare accurate quotations and production costings from design briefs;
• Monitor costs and keep projects within agreed budgets;
• Liaise with the workshop, design team, suppliers, manufacturers and outworkers;
• Source suppliers and manufacturing solutions and negotiate terms;
• Monitor work in progress and resolve production issues and delays;
• Manage stock holdings, stock control systems and production records;
• Identify process improvements, new technologies and techniques relevant to fine jewellery production.

This is a management and administrative position. There is no bench work involved. It is a senior appointment for someone who already knows this trade from the inside and can hold an exacting standard consistently while balancing cost and delivery.

Qualifications

Essential — applications without this will not be considered:

• Production management experience within jewellery manufacturing

Also required:

• Technical knowledge of fine jewellery production and manufacturing processes
• Knowledge of diamonds and precious metals
• Extensive production management experience, including planning, scheduling and workflow optimisation
• Experience preparing quotations, costings and production budgets from design briefs
• Supplier sourcing and negotiation skills, including outworkers and subcontract manufacturing
• Proficiency with production tracking and stock control systems
• A demonstrable record of maintaining exacting quality standards consistently, under pressure and to deadline
• Commercial awareness and confidence working with figures
• Excellent organisational and communication skills, competent with Word and Excel

Advantageous:

• Existing contacts within the trade — suppliers, outworkers and specialist manufacturers
• Familiarity with UK hallmarking and assay office requirements
