About the Role
We are recruiting for an experienced Transport Planner to join one of the UK’s largest intermodal freight forwarders and a leading operator within the UK Heavy Haul rail freight market. Operating across the UK and Europe, the business provides specialist intermodal container transport, heavy haul freight, and logistics solutions to a wide range of customers. Based at the company’s Stanford-Le-Hope operation, you will provide route planning and transport coordination for container vehicles while supporting the wider transport operation. This is an excellent opportunity for a Transport Planner with experience in container transport planning, intermodal logistics, fleet coordination, and subcontractor management to join a well-established and growing freight business offering long-term stability and career development.
Transport Planner – Responsibilities
- Produce a daily Transport Plan in line with customer orders, operational requirements, and service expectations
- Utilise vehicles efficiently to support and maximise daily revenue and fleet utilisation targets
- Coordinate and resource subcontractors, ensuring full compliance and induction completion
- Negotiate and manage subcontractor rates and transport costs
- Participate in a bi-weekly on-call rota for weekends (minimal remote support only with no requirement to attend site)
- Attend daily transport planning and operational review meetings
- Ensure high levels of customer service, delivery performance, and operational efficiency
- Work collaboratively with other UK depots, planners, and transport teams
- Support the smooth running of the container transport and intermodal freight operation
Transport Planner – Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Transport Planner within a container transport, freight forwarding, or logistics environment
- Previous experience within container transport planning and intermodal operations
- Experience using VBS / TOPS transport planning software (Highly Advantageous)
- Strong understanding of fleet planning, route optimisation, and transport coordination
- Excellent multitasking, organisation, and prioritisation skills
- Ability to work effectively within a fast-paced transport and logistics operation
