Monday to Friday 8.30am - 4.30pm

We are looking for a dedicated, passionate and committed Teacher who can achieve the very highest standards of teaching and learning in a functional setting throughout the waking day. Loddon School is more than a residential school. It is home for children aged 8 – 19 with profound autism, who are non-verbal and have severe learning difficulties, resulting in challenging behaviours. We approach things a little differently at Loddon, as many of our children will have experienced mainstream and special schools before. We offer a ‘home-based’ style of education, with children learning through play and experiencing new life skills. Every opportunity is seen as a learning moment, as we operate 52 weeks of the year, there are a lot of opportunities. We strive to ensure each child has an enhanced quality of life. Our multidisciplinary team uses positive working methods and a solution-focused approach to engage children in learning and prepare them for their adult life. We do not use classrooms to teach and so creativity is essential when planning activities within our bespoke curriculum, which satisfy the National Curriculum, Ofsted and National Minimum Standards for Children’s Homes and at the same time stimulate the children in their learning.

Responsibilities

  • You will be responsible for the integrated education and care of a group of four to five children who are supported by a dedicated team of staff.
  • Staff development, careful monitoring of education and care plans for your group, recommending appropriate training and overseeing staff rotas will be within your job remit.
  • You will need to have an understanding of the National Curriculum and differentiation to link into the school’s own PLLUSS Curriculum.
  • You will have experience of children with severe learning difficulties and autism, positive behaviour support and an ability to problem solve.
  • Loddon School practices and promotes PROACT SCIPr-UK® and so knowledge of this would be desirable, or a desire to learn and support the school’s ethos.

Hours

The working day is Monday to Friday 8.30am - 4.30pm and working one Saturday in seven on a rota basis to help support fun weekend activities. The post includes being able to take annual leave during term time and this is shared amongst the team to allow all this option if required, as well having leave in the mainstream school holidays if this preferred. You will be joining a friendly, enthusiastic and well qualified staff team and will find this post challenging, stimulating and rewarding. An excellent comprehensive in-service training and an induction programme will be provided by the school.
