We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Medical Secretary to join our team at Thorpe Park Office. The role will involve typing and management of all clinical letters as well as discharge summaries or other relevant correspondence and documents as required. The post holder will have extensive knowledge of medical terminology and have excellent typing ability.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- To type patient letters, discharge summaries and general correspondence as dictated by the clinical team with use of the digital dictation system to a high degree of speed and accuracy and to action the outcomes of the correspondence timely.
- Ensure all investigation results are readily available to the clinical staff and once signed and acted upon, filed correctly in the medical case notes.
- Adding patients to waiting lists or discharging as appropriate.
- E-mailing referrals to appropriate departments.
- Sending letters out to GPs and patients.
- Chasing letters which have not been received back from clinicians.
- To have extensive knowledge of necessary medical terminology.
- To prioritise workload and ensure that all timelines are met in accordance with SLA’s (service level agreements) and SOPs (standard operating procedures) of the business unit.
- To assist in the development and implementation of SOPs in collaboration with the Medical Secretary Lead and NHS patient services & Operational Manager.
- Liaise with external referral departments (if appropriate) concerning patient referrals.
- To action fast track referrals (if appropriate) to ensure timely appointments are made.
