As The Living Room grows, digital systems, data and technology are increasingly central to how we deliver services, manage information and ensure quality and safety. By bringing digital and technology expertise to the board, you will help strengthen our ability to make informed, strategic decisions about how we use technology across the organisation. This will ensure that our systems are not only effective, but also secure, ethical and aligned with our values.

We are looking for a trustee who brings relevant digital or technology expertise alongside the personal qualities needed to contribute effectively to a collaborative and values-led board.
Experience And Knowledge
You will have experience in digital, technology or data-related roles, with an understanding of how organisations use systems and information to operate effectively and safely. We are particularly interested in individuals who can demonstrate experience in one or more of the following:
- Digital strategy or transformation
- IT leadership or technology management
- Data governance, analytics or insight
- Cyber security or digital risk management
- Using data and systems to improve organisational performance or services
Skills And Abilities
- Strategic thinking and the ability to see long-term digital opportunities
- Confidence to ask questions, provide insight and offer constructive challenge
- The ability to interpret information and support informed decision-making

What will you be doing?
We are seeking a trustee with experience in digital strategy, technology or data leadership to strengthen our board as The Living Room continues to grow. As demand for our services increases, digital systems, data and technology play an increasingly important role in ensuring safe, effective and accessible support. This role will help the board oversee digital opportunities and risks, ensuring technology supports our mission and values.
As a trustee, you will work collaboratively with fellow board members and the executive team to provide strategic oversight of digital development, data use and technology governance. You will help ensure that our systems are secure, our data is used responsibly and our digital approach supports both service delivery and organisational growth.
Key responsibilities include
- Providing strategic oversight of digital, data and technology development
- Supporting awareness and management of cyber security and digital risks
- Advising on data governance, compliance and ethical use of information
- Contributing to discussions on how digital tools can improve services and outcomes
- Helping ensure technology supports safe, effective and accessible service delivery
- Offering constructive challenge and support to the executive team
Key experience areas we are interested in

Experience in the charity sector is welcome but not essential. Previous trustee experience is not required, and a full induction and support will be provided. The time commitment is approximately 4–6 hours per month. The board meets 4–6 times per year, with additional light preparation and occasional input between meetings. We warmly welcome applications from people with lived experience of recovery, or those who have supported someone through addiction. Your perspective is highly valued and aligns with our commitment to being a Lived Experience Recovery Organisation (LERO).
