The Role
Are you a passionate technically minded Solar designer eager to make an impact in the growing renewable energy sector? This could be the perfect role for you! As a Technical solar design lead at The Little Green Energy Company, you will be at the forefront of our design, sales and installation initiatives, driving commercial growth by working with key stakeholders to give the best technical and design advice and engaging potential clients. You'll manage the end-to-end design process, including conducting desktop and physical site surveys working with the business development managers and Project managers, preparing system designs, schematics and recommending the optimum products and installation methods for client projects. Your role will also involve assisting other members of the design team with technical matters and ensuring that designs are technically correct and compliant, recommending improvements in process that will ensure the most efficient service for our customers. By leveraging your design expertise, technical knowledge, and proactive approach, you will play a key role in expanding our market reach and supporting our mission to deliver high-quality, sustainable energy solutions. Role Responsibilities
- System & Product Design: Design and integrate solar products into both new and existing systems, ensuring compliance with MCS, G99, and building regulations.
- Roof Construction & Framing: Work with architectural CAD drawings and manufacturer tools to design framing systems, including solutions for non-standard constructions.
- Technical Support for Sales & Projects: Provide expert technical advice to sales and project managers to support accurate quotations and project delivery.
- Electrical System Design: Perform basic electrical calculations, specify protections, and liaise with board manufacturers to support domestic and commercial installations.
- Data-Driven System Sizing: Use half-hourly usage data and solar/export profiles to accurately size systems and batteries.
- Performance Monitoring: Analyze system performance to identify inefficiencies, ensure correct customer settings, and coordinate with manufacturers for fixes.
- DNO Submissions & Grid Compliance: Manage applications via SmartConnect and Connect Direct, implement G100/G99 schemes, and handle export MPANs and witness testing.
- MCS & Regulatory Adherence: Apply MCS standards and calculations, ensuring product choices are listed and compliant.
- Software Utilization: Use advanced solar design software and basic 2D CAD tools to create compliant, cost-effective, and efficient system layouts.
- Customer & CRM Engagement: Respond to customer enquiries, update CRM systems, and ensure excellent service across project life cycles.

- Structural Awareness: Familiarity with roof structures, materials, and mounting systems for safe and effective installations.
